Uses

Clotrimazole is generally used in treatment of the treatment of fungal infections.
Gentamicin is generally used in treatment of the treatment of bacterial infections.
Beclometasone is generally used in treatment of allergy symptoms, asthma, eye disorders, severe allergic reactions and skin disorders
Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin) is generally used in treatment of bacterial infections of external ear, fungal infections and skin infections

How to use

Clotrimazole is meant for external use only. Use this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. For directions before use, please check the label. Clean and dry the affected area before application and do not rub.
Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self administer.
Rotacaps must not be swallowed. For directions before use, please check the label. Place the capsule at the base of rotahaler, not in the mouthpiece. Twist the mouthpiece completely until your hear a click and breathe in deeply through the mouthpiece. Hold your breath for up to 10 seconds. If some powder remains in the rotahaler repeat the process.

How it works

Clotrimazole is a drug thats antifungal. It makes the condition better by destroying the fungal cell membrane resulting in the fungi to die.
Gentamicin is an antibiotic. It makes the condition better and the bacterial growth is stopped by blocking the supply of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to harm the body.
Beclometasone is a steroid. It blocks the production of some chemical messengers that cause inflammation, redness, swlling & other allergies in the body thereby improving the condition.
Clioquinol belongs to a category of drugs called as hydroxyquinoline antifungal agents. It acts by interacting with DNA synthesis thus killing the fungi that are responsible for causing the infection. It may be combined with a steroid (to reduce inflammation) or an antibacterial agent (to reduce bacterial infection)..
Q. Is Clotrimazole a steroid/ used for thrush/ good for ringworm/ good for toenail fungus?
Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication and not a steroid. It is used for treating thrush, ringworm. It may be used for toenail fungus; however its efficacy in this case is not completely established. It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Is Clotrimazole available over the counter?
Yes, Clotrimazole cream is available over the counter. But if this is the first time you have had vaginal itching and discomfort, talk with a physician before using Clotrimazole

Q. Is Clotrimazole better than miconazole?
Although Clotrimazole and miconazole are different drugs, they work in similar ways. Both are used for treatment of fungal infection, primarily yeast. Despite these similarities, they are often used in different parts of the body and they have different active ingredients and so cannot be compared. Both medications work well, but one of them may work better for some people than others. Check with your doctor for more details

Q. Is candida a steroid/ curable/ contagious/ a STD/ dangerous/ curable/ a steroid cream/ infection dangerous?
Candida is a yeast, a form of fungus. It causes infections such as candidiasis or thrush in humans and other animals. Individuals with Candida infections are not usually contagious, though in some settings immunocompromised people can catch the infection. The infection does not usually spread by sexual contact. Candida infection is curable but if not treated early it can result in a serious infection

Q. Is canesten hydrocortisone for thrush?
Canesten HC cream contains two active ingredients, Clotrimazole (antifungal medicine used to treat infections with fungi and yeasts) and hydrocortisone (corticosteroid medicine that is applied to the skin to relieve the symptoms of inflammation). It is used to treat vaginal thrush.

Q. Is Gentamicin a macrolide, steroid or a sulfa drug?
Gentamicin belongs to broad spectrum aminoglycoside. It is not a sulfa , macrolide or steroidal drug.

Gentamicin is a dialyzable drug and it will be cleared during dialysis sessions.

Gentamicin is more effective towards pseudomonas, escherichia, enterobacter, klebsiella, staphylococcus, salmonella, serratia, and shigella species than the effect towards streptococci and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (mrsa).

Q. Does it cover anaerobes?
Gentamicin doesn't act towards anaerobes.

Q. How long can I take Beclometasone/beconase?
The duration of Beclometasone depends on the disease it is used for.Beclometasone is safe to use if so it is used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as per the advice of the doctor.

Q. Can I take Sudafed/pseudoephedrine, paracetamol, antihistaminics/ cetirizine, ibuprofen with Beclometasone?
Yes, pseudoephedrine, paracetamol, cetirizine, ibuprofen can be taken along with Beclometasone. Please consult your doctor before changing medication

Q. Does Beclometasone cause weight gain?
Prolonged use of Beclometasone may cause weight gain. So consult the doctor if you experience this symptom.

Q. What is clioquinol cream used for?
Clioquinol cream is used for treating skin infections such as eczema (itchy skin), athlete's foot (ringworm infection, a fungal infection of the foot), jock itch (fungal infection of the groin area) and other ringworm infections.
  • Your doctor has prescribed Clotrimazole to cure your infection and improve symptoms.Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • If you have inflammation of the middle ear (otitis media), kidney or liver problem, open wound or damaged skin.If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.If you experience itching, skin rashes, swelling of face, lips, throat or difficulty in breathing.
  • Beclometasone is used to treat a variety of conditions that require either reduction of inflammation or suppression of the immune system.Don't use it more often or for longer than advised by your doctor.Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.Beclometasone can make it harder for you to fight off infections. Notify your doctor if you have any signs of infection such as a fever or sore throat.Side effects such as mood changes or stomach problems can happen when you start taking Beclometasone. Inform your doctor if this bothers you.Do not stop taking Beclometasone suddenly without talking to your doctor first as it may cause worsening of symptoms.
  • Inform your doctor if you are going to undergo thyroid or urine tests as it may interfere with test results.Do not use the clioquinol for more than prescribed duration to avoid toxicity.Clioquinol skin application may affect the results of thyroid function tests for iodine content and ferric chloride test of phenylketonuria.Tell your doctor before using clioquinol if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
