Calcium is generally used in treatment of the treatment of nutritional deficiencies.
Alendronic Acid is generally used in treatment of the treatment of osteoporosis. Used in treatement of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at high risk of fractures.

How to use

Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self administer.
Consume this medicine in the dosage and duration as per your doctors advise. While taking Alendronic Acid, swallow it completely without crushing, breaking or chewing it. Alendronic Acid is to be taken empty stomach.

How it works

Vitamin D3 is a form of vitamin D that helps in raising vitamin D levels. This in turn helps you absorb more calcium from the food resulting in higher calcium levels in your blood.
Calcium is a mineral that provides essential nutrients.
Alendronic Acid is a bisphosphonate. It makes the condition better by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts, cells that cause destruction of bone. This strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures.
Q. Is Calcium tablet/ Calcium sandoz good to take?
Yes, Calcium tablet/ supplement is good if you take it for approved indications, in recommended dosage. However, It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Can I take Calcium with Forteo?
Yes, you can take Calcium with Forteo if it is recommended by your doctor. Forteo (teriparatide) is a man-made form of a hormone and used to treat thinning or weakening of the bone (osteoporosis). It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. What can I take for Calcium in Calcium deficiency?
Adequate dietary intake and/ or Calcium supplement is recommended in patients with Calcium deficiency. Patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding use of any Calcium supplement

Milk is one of the richest sources of Calcium. Yes, patient can take Calcium supplement with milk

Q. Can I take Calcium with iron/ does Calcium inhibit iron absorption?
No, iron supplement should not be taken with Calcium supplements, as they interact to form non-absorbable complexes. They, however, can be taken at interval of 1 to 2 hours between them. Please follow the advice of the doctor regarding its use when indicated together

Q. Can I take Calcium with vitamin C?
There has been no study to prove interaction between Vitamin C and Calcium. However, It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Can I take Calcium with coffee/ tea?
No, coffee/ tea can reduce the absorption of Calcium in the body

Q. Can I take Calcium with magnesium?
No, patient should avoid concomitant administration of Calcium along with magnesium. There could be increase in urinary Calcium excretion when Calcium is given along with magnesium. Please follow the advice of the doctor regarding its use

Q. Can I take Calcium with vitamin D?
Yes, Calcium can be taken with vitamin D. It helps in absorption of Calcium in the body

Q. Can I take Calcium with metformin?
There has been no study that proved interaction between Calcium and metformin. However, It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Can I take Calcium with Synthroid?
You should avoid concomitant use of Calcium and Synthroid within 4 hours. However, It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Can I take Calcium with other supplements?
You should consult your doctor regarding use of other supplement along with Calcium

Q. Does Calcium help in weight loss/weight gain?
The results from the studies conducted do not report the role of Calcium in weight loss or increase in weight. It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Does Calcium increase height/blood pressure?
No study has been reported on role of Calcium in height gain or increase or decrease in blood pressure. It is recommended to follow your doctor advice before using this medication.

Q. Does Calcium tablet cause kidney stones?
Yes, Calcium supplement may cause kidney stones if taken at larger dose or for prolonged duration. Always consult your doctor regarding its use

Q. Does Calcium cause constipation?

Q. Is Alendronic Acid safe/ dangerous/ a biphosphate/ a steroid/ vitamin D?
Alendronic Acid belongs to class of medications called bisphosphonates. It is not a steroid or vitamin D. It is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your doctor

Q. Can I take ibuprofen/ paracetamol with Alendronic Acid?
Avoid taking Alendronic Acid with NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and paracetamol as it increases the gastrointestinal related side effects

Q. Does Alendronic Acid affect your teeth?
Alendronic Acid is not known to affect the teeth. However, bone damage in the jaw (osteonecrosis) generally associated with delayed healing and infection is known to occur following tooth extraction

Q. Does Alendronic Acid contain calcium/ vitamin D?
Alendronic Acid does not contain calcium and vitamin D. You doctor may ask to take calcium or vitamin D

Q. Does Alendronic Acid cause cancer/ hair loss/ make you tired/ increase in blood pressure?
Alendronic Acid has a side effect of causing hair loss and tiredness. However, it is not known to cause cancer or increase in blood pressure. Consult your doctor if you experience such side effects.
  • If you have higher than normal levels of Calcium in your urine (hypercalciuria).If you have kidney stones.If you have mild to moderate problems with your kidneys.If you have an overactive parathyroid gland (hyperparathyroidism).If you have thinning or weakening of bones (osteoporosis) caused by immobility or tumors.
  • Your doctor has prescribed Alendronic Acid to make your bones stronger and lower the risk of fractures.Take it in the morning at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything.Maintain an upright posture for 30 minutes after taking the medication so the medicine doesn't irritate your food pipe.It may cause the amount of calcium in your blood to fall. Take calcium rich food in your diet and have regular blood tests to monitor the level of calcium in your blood.It's important to look after your mouth and teeth as much as possible while you're taking. Have regular dental check-ups and inform your dentist about taking Alendronic Acid.
