Emtricitabine is an antiviral drug. It prevents the multiplication of virus in human cells. This stops the virus from producing new viruses and clears up your infection.
Ritonavir is an anti-HIV drug. It works by interfering with an enzyme (protease), which is required by HIV-infected cells to make new viruses. This stops the production of new viruses.
Atazanavir is an anti-HIV drug. It works by interfering with an enzyme (protease), which is required by HIV-infected cells to make new viruses. This stops the production of new viruses.

  • You have been prescribed Emtricitabine for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.It may also be used in combination with other medicines for the treatment of HIV infections.Take it with food, as this increases the absorption of the medicine into the body.Emtricitabine may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.You may still develop infections or other illnesses associated with viral infection while taking this medication.You can also pass on HIV or HBV to others. Don't share needles or personal items that can have blood or body fluids on them.During treatment and for at least six months after stopping this medicine, regular blood tests are needed to monitor your liver function, level of hepatitis B virus and blood cells in your blood.
  • Consult your doctor about taking the Ritonavir if you had a history of hepatitis A or B, hemophilia, diabetes, erectile dysfunction, kidney disease, any kind of infection, stiffness or aches or pains in joints, weakness or pain or tenderness in muscles, light-headedness, dizziness, fainting episodes or abnormal heartbeat.Ritonavir tablets should always be taken with food.Use effective methods of contraception to avoid pregnancy.Do not drive or operate machinery as Ritonavir can cause dizziness or sleepiness.
  • Before taking Atazanavir, inform you doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.Inform you doctor if you have or ever had any liver problems or liver disease including hepatitis B or C or kidney problems.Discuss with your doctor about necessary precautions to be taken to avoid spreading of HIV virus to others.Atazanavir should not be used in children who weigh less than 10 kg or who weigh 25 kg or more.Consult your doctor if you experience sudden or spontaneous bleeding.
