How it works
Buprenorphine is a opioid partial agonist. It prevents withdrawal symptoms in patients who stop taking opioid drugs by producing similar effects to these drugs. It also provides pain relief by acting on specific receptors in the brain that change how your body feels and responds to pain. Naloxone is an opioid antagonist. Opioid medicines are strong painkillers, which in high doses can cause life-threatening side effects such as difficulty in breathing.
Naloxone works by blocking the effects of opioids leading to reversal of these side effects.
