Uses

Tazobactum is generally used in treatment of the treatment of bacterial infections.
Cefepime is generally used in treatment of the treatment of bacterial infections. It is generally used in treatment for short-term treatment of bacterial infections of urinary tract, skin and soft-tissue, blood, abdomen, genital and lungs (pneumonia). It is typically also used prevent infections after surgery.

How it works

Tazobactum is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It makes the condition better by blocking an enzyme (beta lactamase) produced by bacteria to inactivate antibiotics. This reduces resistance and enhances the activity of antibiotics against bacteria.
Cefepime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body.
Q. Is tazobactam a sulfa (sulfonamide) drug?
Sulbactam does not contain sulfa. It is a beta lactamase Inhibitor

Tazobactam in combination with piperacillin is mainly effective against anaerobes and enterococcus, listeria, staphylococcus, citrobacter, haemophilus, moraxella and proteus species but methicillin-resistant staphylococci are resistant to tazobactam/piperacillin

Tazobactam is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your doctor.

Q. Is Cefepime beta lactam, penicillin, or sulfa drug?
Cefepime does not contain sulfa and is not a penicillin drug. It is a beta lactam cephalosporin antibiotic

Cefepime is a broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic

Q. Is Cefepime compatible with lactated ringer's, normal saline, or vancomycin?
Cefepime is compatible with lactated ringer's or normal saline. Solutions of Cefepime should not be added to vancomycin. However, if concurrent therapy with Cefepime is indicated, vancomycin can be administered separately. Please consult your doctor before taking the drug

No, Cefepime is not a vesicant drug

Q. What organisms does Cefepime cover?
Cefepime is mainly effective against methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (mssa), gram-negative bacteria, klebsiella, Group B streptococci but not effective against enterococcus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (mrsa), or anaerobes such as mycoplasma.
  • It is given as an infusion (a drip for 30 minutes) into a vein.Tell the doctor if you have to provide a blood or urine sample for any test because tazobactam and piperacillin may cause false positive results.If you are suffering from diarrhea before, or during the treatment with the drug.If you have kidney or liver problems, low levels of potassium in the blood, or are receiving hemodialysis.If you develop new or worsening infection, or fits (convulsions) during the treatment.If you are on a controlled-sodium diet.If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Your doctor has prescribed Cefepime to cure your infection and improve your symptoms.Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection to come back and harder to treat.Discontinue Cefepime and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn't stop or if you find blood in your stools.Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Cefepime as it may cause increased side effects.
