Uses

Cefoperazone is generally used in treatment of the treatment of bacterial infections. It is generally used in treatment for short-term treatment of bacterial infections of urinary tract, skin and soft-tissue, ear, bone, blood, abdomen, genital and lungs (pneumonia). It is typically also used prevent infections after surgery.
Sulbactam is generally used in treatment of the treatment of bacterial infections.

How it works

Cefoperazone is an antibiotic. It makes the condition better by preventing the bacteria from forming a bacterial protective covering that's essential for the bacteria to survive, thereby killing them.
Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It makes the condition better by blocking an enzyme (beta lactamase) produced by bacteria to inactivate antibiotics. This reduces resistance and enhances the activity of antibiotics against bacteria.

Combination of Cefoperazone and sulbactam (beta lactamase inhibitor) are used for the treatment of intra-abdominal infections

Q. Is Cefoperazone nephrotoxic?
No, cefoperazona is not a nephrotoxic drug when given alone, but when given along with aminoglycosides (gentamicin, tobramycin) or other cephalosporins antibiotics, it may increase nephrotoxicity. Please consult your doctor before taking the drug

  • Your doctor has prescribed Cefoperazone to cure your infection and improve your symptoms.Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection to come back and harder to treat.Discontinue Cefoperazone and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn't stop or if you find blood in your stools.Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Cefoperazone as it may cause increased side effects.
  • It is preferentially given as an injection directly into a vein or into a muscle but tablet form is also available.Tell the doctor if you have diabetes and regularly check your urine for sugar level; ampicillin and Sulbactam may cause false positive results.Do not start or continue the Sulbactam and consult your doctor: If you have asthma, runny nose due to allergy (hay fever), or kidney or gastrointestinal disease especially inflammation of large intestine (colitis), If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding or become pregnant while taking ampicillin and Sulbactam.
