How it works
Sulfadoxine is an antibiotic. It stops the bacteria from producing folic acid, a nutrient required for bacterial multiplication. Artesunate is an antiparasitic drug. It works by producing harmful chemicals (free radicals) within the malarial parasite, thereby killing it. Pyrimethamine is an antiparasitic drug which treats malaria. It works by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.
