How to use

Consume this medicine in the dosage and duration as per your doctors advise. While taking Ambroxol, swallow it completely without crushing, breaking or chewing it. Ambroxol is to be taken with food.
Consume this medicine in the dosage and duration as per your doctors advise. While taking Doxycycline, swallow it completely without crushing, breaking or chewing it. Doxycycline is to be taken empty stomach.Take this medicine one hour before food or two hours after food, with a full glass of water. You can take this medicine with food if it upsets your stomach.Avoid Doxycycline with dairy products such as milk, cheese, curd, butter, paneer and ice cream.

How it works

Ambroxol is a mucolytic drug. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) in the nose, windpipe and lungs making it easier to cough out.
Doxycycline is an antibiotic. It makes the condition better and the bacterial growth is stopped by blocking the supply of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to harm the body.
Q. Is Ambroxol an antibiotic/steroid?
No. Ambroxol belongs to a class of drugs called expectorants (aid expulsion of mucus as cough) or mucolytic (liquefy and loosen mucus). It has no know effect against infections. It does not have chemical structure or effects similar to steroids

Q. Is Ambroxol good for dry cough?
No. Ambroxol is more effective in the treatment of productive cough associated with thickened mucus and poor mucus clearance

Q. Is Ambroxol a prescription drug?
Cough syrups containing Ambroxol and other active drugs commonly used for cough and cold may be available as over the counter (OTC) without prescription

Mucolite is a trade name for active drug Ambroxol. Ambroxol may be used in children below 2 years of age only when prescribed by a doctor. It is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your child’s or infant’s doctor

Q. Does Ambroxol make you sleepy/ you high?
Ambroxol is not known to make you sleepy or high.

Doxycycline belongs to class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. Doxycycline is not a steroid, does not belong to penicillin family and is not a macrolide antibiotic

Doxycycline may be taken with ibuprofen, prednisone, Nyquil, azithromycin, antihistaminic or Tylenol. However, consult your doctor before use it together, for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice

Doxycycline helps in preventing the formation of new acne scars, but may not work for the scars which have already formed

Doxycycline may cause weight gain, tiredness and headache. These effects may vary with the individual taking the medicine.
  • Do consult your doctor before taking Ambroxol if you have a history of severe allergic reactions of skin (Stevens-Johnson syndrome or Lyell syndrome).Do not continue taking Ambroxol and contact your doctor immediately, if you notice any damage to skin or mucosa (moist tissue that lines the inner side of nose, mouth, lungs, and the urinary and digestive tracts). Avoid taking drugs that suppress cough (antitussives) if you are taking Ambroxol.Do consult your doctor before taking Ambroxol, if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.Do consult your doctor before taking Ambroxol if you are breast-feeding.Do consult your doctor before taking Ambroxol if you have.Severe liver or kidney problems. You may need dose reduction or extension of dosing interval.A disease called Ciliary dyskinesia in which the hair like structures along the airways called cilia are faulty and do not help in clearing the mucus.
  • Your doctor has prescribed Doxycycline to cure your infection and improve symptoms.Take it with food and plenty of water to avoid stomach upset. Take it while you are sitting or standing, to prevent any throat irritation and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking Doxycycline.Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection to come back and harder to treat.Do not take antacids or medicines containing zinc or iron at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking Doxycycline.Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn't stop or if you find blood in your stools.It can increase your chances of getting sunburned or a skin rash. Wear sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
