Uses

Oxymetazoline is generally used in treatment of the treatment of nasal congestion. Used in treatement of congestion associated with allergies, hay fever, sinus irritation, and the common cold.

How to use

Use this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. For directions before use, please check the label. Insert the bottle tip into one nostril and close the other nostril. Direct the spray away from the cartilage diving the two sides of your nose and toward the sides of your nostril. As you spray, breath gently and keep the head upright. Repeat in the other nostril.

How it works

Oxymetazoline is a decongestant that improves the condition by shrinking the blood vessels to provide quick and temporary relief from inflammation (swelling and redness) and discomfort.
Q. Is Oxymetazolinee addictive?
Oxymetazoline treatment does not cause mental addiction. However, patients may get physically addicted such that they feel the compulsion to use Oxymetazoline. Hence, it should only be used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your doctor

Q. Is Oxymetazoline a steroid/ antihistamine?
Oxymetazoline belongs to a class of medications called adrenergic drugs that are used as nasal decongestants. It is not a steroid or an antihistaminic

Q. Does Oxymetazoline cause cataract/keep you awake/ raise blood pressure/insomnia/drowsiness?
No such reports are available that confirm treatment related mentioned side effects (cataract/keep you awake/ insomnia/drowsiness). Oxymetazoline can raise blood pressure when taken with drugs like selegiline, moclobemide that are used to treat depression, and can also decrease the effect of drugs used to treat blood pressure. Hence, patients should consult doctors regarding the possible side effects and drug interactions

Q. Can I take Oxymetazoline with Benadryl (diphenhydramine)/ phenylephrine/ pseudoephedrine?
Oxymetazoline should not be taken concomitantly with Benadryl (diphenhydramine) /phenylephrine/pseudoephedrine. Please consult your doctor when using concomitantly.
  • Do not take Oxymetazoline if you have high blood pressure, heart disease including previous episodes of pain and discomfort in the chest, diabetes mellitus, thyroid problems, liver or kidney disorders and non-cancerous enlargement of prostate; hallucinations (seeing, hearing or feeling things that are not really there), restlessness, sleep disturbances; increased pressure in the eyes (glaucoma).Avoid taking this Oxymetazoline if you have redness and swelling of the lining of your nose, or have scabs in your nose.Do not take Oxymetazoline if you have a recent nose surgery or surgery to remove the pituitary gland; or tumor of adrenal glands (pheochromocytoma) that causes episodic or persistent rise in blood pressure.Take Oxymetazoline nose drops for a maximum of 7 consecutive days to avoid rebound effect and drug induced rhinitis (runny nose).
