How it works

Glycerin is a laxative. It works by drawing water into the intestine, which makes the stool soft and easier to pass.
Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose is a lubricant that's similar to natural tears. On applying, it offers temporary relief from burning and irritation caused due to dryness around the eye.
Dextran 70 is derived from natural sources of sugar (glucose). It works by restoring blood plasma lost due to severe bleeding. Plasma is required to circulate red blood cells that transport oxygen throughout the body.
Q. What is Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose?
Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose belongs to a class of medicines called eye lubricants or artificial tears. It is available as eye drops. It is used to soothe irritation, burning and discomfort of dry eye conditions(deficient tear production, infrequent blinking, smoke, wind, pollution, extended use of computer screen or television, medical treatment, dry atmospheric conditions). It may also be used to aid insertion and increase comfort of hard contact lenses

Q. Is Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose safe?
Yes,Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose is safe if used for prescribed duration in prescribed doses as recommended by your doctor.. It has minimal side effects and drug interactions.
  • Avoid taking a Glycerin for more than 1 week, unless prescribed by the doctor, as it leads to dependency on the laxative action to produce a bowel movement. Together with Glycerin, fiber rich diet containing whole grain bread and cereals, bran, fruits and green leafy vegetables, is essential to maintain healthy bowel function.A Glycerin should preferably be taken at bedtime because it requires 6 to 8 hours to show impact.Notify your doctor if you are on a low-sugar diet because the Glycerin contains sugars.Take Glycerin after 2 hours from other medicines, as it may interfere with the absorption of other medicines.
  • Your doctor has prescribed Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose to treat dry eye disease. It stabilizes the natural tear film and maintains necessary lubrication so your eyes don’t get dry and irritated.May require long-term use.Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 mins. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
