Uses

Chlordiazepoxide is generally used in treatment of alcohol withdrawal and severe anxiety
Amitriptyline is generally used in treatment for preventive treatment of depression, migraine and neuropathic pain It is generally used in treatment of patients intolerant of or unresponsive to alternative treatment options for depression.

How to use

Consume this medicine in the dosage and duration as per your doctors advise. While taking Chlordiazepoxide, swallow it completely without crushing, breaking or chewing it. Chlordiazepoxide is advised to be taken at a fixed time, but may be taken together with food (or) without food.Avoid Chlordiazepoxide with caffeine and chocolate as well as food containing caffeine and chocolate such as tea leaves, cocoa beans.

How it works

Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine. It is a psychoactive drug that improves the condition by increaseing the action of GABA, a chemical messenger that reduces the abnormal activity of the brain nerve cells.
Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that improves the condition by increasing the amount of chemical messengers in the brain that are essential for regulating the mood, thereby treating depression. It blocks the passing of pain signals to the brain from c pain (pain from damaged nerves).
Q. Does Chlordiazepoxide work and what does Chlordiazepoxide treat?
Chlordiazepoxide is used for the short-term (2-4 weeks only) treatment of severe anxiety, which may occur alone or in association with sleeping problems (insomnia) or personality/behavioral disorders. It may also be used to treat muscle spasms, and to relieve alcohol withdrawal symptoms

Q. Is Chlordiazepoxide/Chlordiazepoxide + clidinium a narcotic/controlled drug or substance?
Chlordiazepoxide is not a narcotic drug. Chlordiazepoxide is classified by the Drug Enforcement Administration as a Schedule IV controlled substance. Any medicine which contains Chlordiazepoxide alone or in combination with other drugs will be treated as a controlled substance and will require prescription for purchase

Xanax is a trade name for active drug alprazolam which belongs to the same group of medicines as Chlordiazepoxide called benzodiazepines. Chlordiazepoxide used to treat anxiety disorders, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, or muscle spasms. Xanax (alprazolam) is used to treat severe anxiety and severe anxiety associated with depression

Q. Can I take ibuprofen with Chlordiazepoxide?
Chlordiazepoxide has no known harmful interaction with ibuprofen. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required

No, Amitriptyline is not a steroid. It belongs to class of medication called as tricyclic antidepressant.

Q. Can I take Amitriptyline with Betahistine?
Amitriptyline has not been clinically studied when used along with Betahistine. So there are no reports of any drug-drug interactions or harmful effects when these are used together.
  • If you are taking Chlordiazepoxide for the treatment of insomnia and anxiety, it should not be used more than 4 weeks.It may become less effective over the time.It causes sleepiness or drowsiness. If this happens to you, do not drive or use machinery.Avoid consuming alcohol when taking the Chlordiazepoxide, as it may cause excessive sleepiness or drowsiness.Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.Inform your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney or liver problems.The addiction / habit-forming potential of Chlordiazepoxide is very high.
  • You have been prescribed Amitriptyline for treatment of migraine/ neuropathic pain.Take it at bedtime to avoid feeling sleepy during the day.It may take 4 to 6 weeks for Amitriptyline to start working.Monitor your weight during the treatment as Amitriptyline can cause weight gain and increased appetite.It may change your urine color to blue-green.It may cause sudden drop in your blood pressure. Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how Amitriptyline affects you.Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden mood changes or develop suicidal thoughts.Avoid consuming alcohol when taking the Amitriptyline as it may cause excessive drowsiness.
