Gabapentin is an antiepileptic drug. It modulates calcium channel activity of the nerve cells in the brain and decreases pain & seizures. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that improves the condition by increasing the amount of chemical messengers in the brain that are essential for regulating the mood, thereby treating depression. It blocks the passing of pain signals to the brain from c pain (pain from damaged nerves).
